Video: Southeast Alabama Medical Center and Their Experiences on RTLS

In this ID World video, Scott Lapham, Sr. Network Engineer from SouthEast Alabama Medical Center, shares his hands-on experiences with real-time location system deployment.

> Check out the video here!

Rarely do you run across such a great video. Scott is an actual hospital engineer, who has been deeply involved in selecting and deploying the location system. He does an excellent job in describing their needs, and the entire location tracking project.

Video Summary:

SAMC main benefits from the RTLS were reducing downtimes, increasing efficiencies, having assets available all the time, and overall, improving patient care and satisfaction; The staff members are no longer searching for assets but assisting patients.

This was not a “technology first”-project, but rather the need for tracking came from nursing, and Scott and the IT/biomed teams fulfilled that need. They did evaluate the “big three”, and chose Ekahau RTLS.

The next steps for the RTLS will be automated patient tracking, and staff member communication solution.

A system ROI of 18 months is pretty much what many of our RTLS customers are seeing.

Would you have any experiences on RTLS deployments, or know links to videos or other media describing RTLS customer cases?

Latin America’s Largest Public Cancer Centre deploys Ekahau RTLS for Staff Tracking

Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo Octavio Frias de Oliveira – ICESP, located in São Paulo, Brazil, chose Ekahau RTLS as their real-time tracking and bi-directional communications solution.

The Ekahau solution helps the hospital to comply with Utstein guidelines, an international method for reporting cardiac arrest by tracking response time to patients who are in cardiac arrest or when their conditions quickly become unstable. The RTLS solution is crucial for this multi-story hospital – spanning 28 floors – to quickly locate professionals.

The Ekahau solution was the only one on the market that could deliver bi-directional communications, essential for healthcare professionals to acknowledge the emergency alerts, and could integrate with ICESPs existing PBX system and leverage the existing Wi-Fi network without requiring additional infrastructure, such as portals and exciters.

The staff members, who are alerted to their Ekahau T301BD badge tags, can response to the call by pushing a button on their badge. Responses are logged in ICESP’s database thus enabling them to improve response time and evaluate processes. The badge also provides informational text messages related to the event.

ICESP is already planning to leverage the system for tracking and managing clinical assets and utilizing the Ekahau temperature monitoring solution.

Laptop, your best friend for solving Wi-Fi issues (for now)

It’s great that you can solve so many different Wi-Fi issues with just a laptop and some smart software.

But what if you didn’t even need a laptop? Now that would be awesome.

Stay tuned…
